Hello there my blogger friends. I have no new pictures to add to my blog since I haven't taken the time to take any. Sadly, I haven't been knitting much either. I did finish my flip-flops for my chicklets and now am starting a few for teacher gifts. I really want to try the new sock craze, but am overwhelmed. I need to sit with someone who does this and get a little tutoring. I don't usually use dpn's and feel awkward with them. The pattern in the newest Interweave Knits magazine is so pretty. Did anyone see it? Such pretty socks. I just feel like I might be over my head. I have pretty much tackled all of my summer clothes bins. Now, I am just trying to weed out all the clothes that the kids don't need and get them the heck out of my house. I brought four huge plastic bags of clothes to the Good Will and have about two more. Mostly my clothes now. I lost two more pounds this week. I am on a mission to at least look half way decent in my bathing suit this summer. We will see....

I too was afraid of sock-knitting, until I found a couple of sites that were very helpful (or not, if you consider all of the sock yarn that has been acquired since then). One is www.knittinghelp.com, which has little videos of all sorts of things, including turning a heel. Knitty.com has Socks 101 - http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring05/FEATsocks101.html, including a practice sock pattern. Once I worked through that, I was good to go, and have finished two pairs of socks. The videos are great, you can rewind back to the tricky parts as many times as you need to.

If you mean the Bazaar Socks on the web site - the color work scares me. I haven't done a toe-up sock, though lots of knit bloggers seem to prefer them.
The socks look fantastic and a lot of fun - I would knit several simpler designs first to learn how to knit a sock.
I might pick a simple stockinette sock to start with, just so you can learn the basic contruction. But then again, I never believe in limiting your options - so why not start with what ever pattern really appeals to you? I had A LOT of problems with my first sock, and this site was what got me through. I sat in front of the computer with my sock and just followed along. You can do it!!
I hate to admit it, but I haven't seen the latest IK. Now, I will run out and buy it as soon as possible!
I'm with Karen on starting with a stockinette stitch sock, maybe in a pretty self-patterning type yarn. It will be more forgiving fit-wise than lace, and you'll get used to the needles and the pattern. The Socks 101 from Knitty has a pattern for a tiny little practice sock - maybe try that, then go on to the lace that you really like.
